The UN Security Council has considered the situation in Donbass during a closed session. As a result, a statement, proposed by Ukraine, has been adopted. The document calls for immediate ceasefire.
The UN Security Council has expressed “grave concern” about “dangerous deterioration” of the situation in the east of Ukraine and called for an immediate return to a ceasefire regime. The statement, issued at the closed session of the UN Security Council, was posted on the official Twitter page of permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN Vladimir Elchenko.

“The members of the Security Council condemned the use of weapons, prohibited by the Minsk agreements, along the contact line in the Donetsk region that lead to deaths and injuries, including among civilians,” the statement reads.

In addition, the Security Council expressed its “full support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” and stressed “the need for strict compliance” of the resolution, which approved a number of measures to implement the Minsk agreements.

The draft of the statement was introduced to the UN Security Council by the representative of Ukraine. Earlier, Kiev requested an emergency session on the situation in Avdeevka, located in Donetsk region. The meeting was held behind closed doors.
Elchenko also added that the UN Security Council is ready to once again discuss the situation in eastern Ukraine on February 2 at an open meeting. “Since tomorrow, the UN Security Council and Ukraine as a chairman will monitor the situation in Donbass. [We] will convene a meeting on Ukraine on Thursday at 22:00,” Elchenko said.
Earlier, “deep concern” about deteriorating of the situation in the east of Ukraine was expressed the US Department of State. According to a statement of deputy spokesman for the US State Department Mark Toner, the fighting “cost” tens of victims “among Ukrainian military” and “tens among civilian population.” He called for immediate ceasefire and providing a complete unimpeded access for OSCE representatives.
Now, the situation looks like the US introduced the neutral resolution to the UN Security Council through Ukraine. And this resolution was adopted. It is almost a sensation on the background of activities and all recent statements of Kiev.[/size]

Ukrajina ionako nikada nije bila samostalna država dok nije došlo do raspada SSSR-a. I onda su nagrađeni time da su dobili neke teritorije koji im baš i ne pripadjau a između ostaloga i poluotok Krim im je ostao u nasljedstvo mada isti prije nije njima pripadao. I svi zaboravljaju da su Rusi tri puta odbijali želju žitelja Krima, koji je bio autonomna Republika u okviru Ukrajine, da se referendumom izjasne gdje, i u kojoj državi, žele živjeti. No kada su Ameri i Zapad došli na Majdan kako bi malo širili slobodu i demokraciju Putin im je dao po prstima a jadna Ukrajina više nikada neće biti ono što je bila. Jebiga... što su tražili to su i dobili.

It’s the third day of fighting in the area south-east of the city of Avdeyevka. The short and relatively successful UAF attack by a company from the 1st Mechanized Battalion of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade undertaken in the pre-dawn darkness of January 29 has led to consequences which were wholly unexpected by those who authorized the operation.
As of early January 30, everything looked like the Svetlodarsk scenario. A short attack, then defense. Then several days of opposing artillery fire and you can record another “victory.” But already the fighting on January 30 showed that the Novorossia Armed Forces (NAF) leaders decided to not only recover several positions lost earlier but use this occasion to return the Avdeyevka industrial zone under its control.
The importance of the Avdeyevka industrial zone
This sector has enormous tactical importance. The zone not only provides cover for the Donetsk-Avdeyevka road that runs parallel to the front line, but also can act as a very convenient staging point for an eventual advance on Avdeyevka itself.
The Avdeyevka industrial zone, if held by the NAF, is a veritable nail in the UAF command’s ass. If it’s not under control, the UAF can forget about further advance toward Yasinovataya and northern suburbs of Donetsk. It also forces the creation of a defensive line along the southern outskirts of Avdeyevka which, considering the terrain, would require considerably more resources, which in turn is a very heavy burden on the command of the 72nd Brigade given the severe shortage of said resources.
The zone is of crucial importance to the NAF for the same reasons. Control of the zone means the area can be defended effectively with fewer forces, and the zone also can be used to launch offensive operations.
Hence the intensity of fighting and the stubborn desire to control this territory which has been in evidence for almost a year (the first serious battles here took place in February 2016).
The fighting on January 31
The overall situation in the Avdeyevka area on January 31 shifted dramatically against the UAF. Their tactics did not assume the need to advance beyond the forward NAF outposts, hence the small size of the assault groups used for the task (several platoons).
These assault groups have now spent three days under continuous NAF artillery fire (UAF positions in the area have been under heavy fire from all calibers). According to the UAF, this does not allow them to evacuate the wounded (and the temperature is below freezing) or to resupply ammunition.
This is responsible for the high percentage of fatalities, due to the inability to render medical aid in a timely fashion (even in the highly abridged official casualty reports).
Judging from available information, the NAF, having concentrated significant artillery assets in this sector and realizing that the adversary has tied himself to an insignificant piece of terrain and is incapable of advancing further, intend to repeat the Debaltsevo operation. Which is to bring the “garrison” to desperation by a combination of an artillery “steamroller” and cutting off logistics.
According to reports from the scene of fighting, the NAF carried out several small group attacks and made some progress into the industrial zone. There is indirect evidence of close-quarter fighting in the form of Dnepropetrovsk hospitals receiving casualties with bullet wounds (which did not happen on the 30th).
The defeat on the diplomatic front
It’s already obvious that Kiev understands it miscalculated in Avdeyevka and has been looking for a way out of a problem it created. Even Germany is looking askance at the Kiev regime and has begun accusing it of escalating the conflict, which was not part of the regime plans.
It’s from this angle that one should examine how the story with the Avdeyevka loss of electricity has evolved. As late as the evening of the 30th, Kiev was calling for help using all diplomatic channels, hoping that intermediaries will rush in, stop the fighting, and allow Kiev to keep the positions they occupied. But that hasn’t happened. It is notable that the message was not picked up and transmitted by US and European media in a form acceptable to Kiev. What is more, German press directly accused Kiev of unleashing a new phase of war on the Donbass. The new official Washington’s silence spoke volumes, and signaled to Moscow that it’s none of their business and that Moscow is within its rights to slap down an out-of-line vassal without any negative consequences.
This to a certain extent unties the NAF forces’ hands (though likely within certain geographic limits)… Everyone decided to teach Kiev a lesson. The bosses are fine with the idea of Poroshenko being administered a slap to the back of his head using the NAF, so that he no longer acts against the new occupant of the White House. Moscow, as far as we understand, has no reasons at all to restrain the just anger of the militia. Thus already by the morning of the 31st the stars were aligned very badly for the originators of the provocation.
This is why Kiev’s plans changed somewhat. As late as the morning of the 31st, the population of Avdeyevka was being readied for a full evacuation which was canceled by the evening. What is more. all the Emercom and local authorities’ assets were thrown at supporting the infrastructure. The regime understands that right now the population of Avdeyevka are in reality a human shield (like the inhabitants of Aleppo were for the Syrian militants). If they were allowed/forced to leave their homes, it can’t be assumed the NAF would stop after capturing the Avdeyevka industrial zone. Which means one must do everything possible to ensure the inhabitants (who are all “separatists”) do not freeze to death and do not leave their “defenders” to face the “terrorists”, many of whom have Avdeyevka addresses and have long dreamed of returning to their home town…[/size]

zanimljivo ova dva srpska foruma gdje su čak pisali srpski dobrovoljci iz ukraine, više nerade , :/

1. In the second half of the day the intensity of shelling had begun to creep up again. Bombardments were noted near Avdeyevka, Zaitsevo, Yasinovataya, Gorlovka, Kalinovo, and the Svetlodarsk salient. Weapons used include mortars 82mm-120mm in caliber, 122mm and 152mm howitzers.
2. Electricity supply in Avdeyevka has been partly restored. The Avdeyevka coke plant continues operation. Gorlovka’s power has also been restored, after the high-tension lines were blown up near Svetlodarsk.

3. Social media are circulating rumors, citing unnamed military sources, that UAF attacks are possible overnight in the direction of Gorlovka. DPR forces are at heightened readiness.
4. US officially announced that agreements with Russia may be reached irrespective of what is happening in Avdeyevka, thus the question of direct negotiations has been decoupled from the situation on the Donbass battlefront.
5. The enemy is continuing to conduct active reconnaissance of the immediate rear areas of DPR and LPR using drones, they are probably attempting to update data on the first echelon of DPR and LPR army corps. Increased patrol/raid activity may be expected.
6. According to DPR MOD, the enemy is bolstering its force grouping near Avdeyevka and Volnovakha. Tochka-U SRBMs were detected near the Avdeyevka coke plant. The bulk of the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade was dispatched from Kharkov to the Donbass.
7. Both sides continue to accuse one another of using the Avdeyevka and Makeyevka urban areas for military purposes. No serious changes here are expected.
8. LPR is reporting enemy activity near Zolotoye. There are reports from Lugansk that battle alert has been announced.
Overall, the situation is continuing to unfold in accordance with the old scenario, with local escalations along the static front, but there nevertheless exists a definite probability of escalation due to the absence of any clear diplomatic limits on course of events.

Academy Award-winning film director Oliver Stone says that US President Donald Trump should make public any secret documents he has in his possession on the origins of the conflict in Ukraine.

Stone said that unfortunately, most Americans do not know the origins to the crisis in Ukraine.

"If I were President Trump, I would declassify all this information on Ukraine, as well as Syria, but above all Ukraine, because it's the focal point of where this [new] Cold War has come about," Stone said.

The director noted that the US establishment has stuck to the same false narrative about Russia 'seizing' Crimea, about Russian involvement in the Ukrainian civil war, its posing a 'threat' to Ukraine, etc. There are important facts left unsaid about the origins of the Ukrainian crisis, Stone said, including the 'color revolutionary' techniques employed in the lead-up to the Maidan coup, who provided the funding, and who the mysterious snipers were that fired on police and protesters alike at the height of the crisis.

Stone characterized the current government in Kiev as unelected, extremely-right wing, heavily corrupted and controlled from abroad. Its very survival, he noted, depends on financial support from abroad. "I don't see any real democracy in Ukraine," he added, pointing to restrictions against the work of journalists, and the threats and attacks against anyone who speaks out against the government.
Asked about the CIA's involvement in the Ukraine crisis, the director explained that "Ukraine was one of the main objectives of the CIA" since the start of the Cold War, with the US providing covert aid to militia and dissident groups since the late 1940s.
Stone called the current resurgence of hostilities in eastern Ukraine "disgusting," saying that Kiev was obviously trying to get Trump to provide financial and other assistance. The mainstream US media, he noted, has been nearly unanimous in blaming Russia for the fighting.
