Is maths racist? That’s the question apparently troubling the department of mathematical sciences at Durham University at the moment. As the Telegraph reports, the department has put out a new guide on ‘decolonisation’, urging maths academics to ensure their teaching is ‘more inclusive’ and not dominated by a Eurocentric view on the world.
Of course, exploring the overlooked contribution of non-western thinkers to mathematics would be no bad thing. But this guide goes a fair bit further down the ‘decolonisation’ rabbit hole. It urges academics to introduce more non-white thinkers into their classes, thus presenting their race as more important than their merit or impact. And it urges academics to ‘discuss how maths can be used to aid attempts to secure equality’ – that is, to turn what should be an objective, academic subject into a form of activism.

Ja sam u petom osnovne bio prvak škole u matematici...
Na račun toga su me nagovorili da upišem srednju matematičku, jer dijete od 14 godine ne zna tko mu glavu nosi...
Onda sam ih poslušao, upisao i završio tu školu...
I zajebo sam se.
To mi nikad u životu nije trebalo.
Trebao sam bit autolimar ili automehaničar.
Na to sam sprdio najviše love....
Na račun toga su me nagovorili da upišem srednju matematičku, jer dijete od 14 godine ne zna tko mu glavu nosi...
Onda sam ih poslušao, upisao i završio tu školu...
I zajebo sam se.
To mi nikad u životu nije trebalo.

Ali amerikanci pišu često proračune po onim plavim nacrtima (blueprint) po kojima pišu bijelom tintom, to nije slučajno

"Floods, hurricanes, wildfires, and other consequences of climate change threaten libraries, library workers, and library publics around the world. We must build on recent association work in this area and connect to broader public legislation in order to preserve libraries and communities for an uncertain future," her platform stated.
She also noted that as president, she would "develop and share a global vision of librarianship in which international cooperation and exchange are central to equity and justice."
"From organized attacks on library funding to attempts to ban books to state bans on what can and can’t be taught in the classroom, all of us face pressures that get in the way of our core missions," Drabinski later added.
