Fashion's new frontier? Y-3 partners with Virgin Galactic to create space apparel

Virgin Galactic, a spaceflight company within Virgin group, and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas' label Y-3, are teaming up to create apparel fit for space.
To cement the partnership, Y-3 unveiled prototypes of its flight suit and boot at the Spaceport America in New Mexico -- home to Virgin Galactic's Gateway to Space terminal.

Astronauts will trial the apparel during Virgin Galactic's flight test program, to ensure the suits are practical to wear while piloting a commercial space flight, according to a statement issued by the two companies.
Tailored for comfort, flight suits will be constructed using 3D-engineered patterns and use advanced fabrics such as Nomex -- a heat-resistant material made from strong synthetic fibers.
The flight boot contains leather and will feature special outsoles and heel inserts that provide extra grip and maximize shock absorption.
Some of the apparel will be available to the airline's passengers in the future.
As of now, there is no set date for Virgin Galactic's first commercial flight. The company is working to debut a new spaceplane model in February 2016, following a fatal test flight in 2014.

The economic sanctions on Iran would most probably be lifted Saturday, a source in Jerusalem told Army Radio, and he warned that the first investment by the Islamic Republic would be military and not civilian.


The unnamed source said that Iran’s first priority would be to spend its newly freed-up funds on military acquisitions, and not on civilian investments, Army Radio reported. Furthermore, the source said, the implementation of the agreement would have a direct impact on the region, as terror groups Hezbollah and Hamas — both recipients of Iranian largesse — found themselves in possession of new and modern weaponry.



“The world powers are mistaken if they see Iran as a solution to regional stability, and not the source of the problem,” another unnamed source said, according to the radio.
The Institute of International Finance (IIF) estimated in November that the Iranian economy would surge by six percent when the sanctions are lifted, theInternational Business Times reported at the time. Such growth, the media outlet said, would lead the country to outperform many other countries in the region.
Under the July 2015 deal, Iran has agreed to scale down dramatically key areas of its nuclear activities in exchange for relief from the crippling sanctions, notably on its oil exports.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif predicted earlier in the day that Saturday would bring an end to the sanctions.
Once the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, verifies that Iran has met the terms laid out in the July 2015 agreement reached with world powers, a raft of US, EU and UN sanctions on Iran will be lifted, including on its lifeblood oil exports.
The IAEA verification is expected Saturday, after which Zarif, together with US Secretary of State John Kerry and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, will announce that the sanctions are ending. All three are meeting in Vienna for the announcement.

  Earlier this morning, the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched a large-scale counter-offensive in the Turkmen Mountians (Jabal Al-Turkmen) of northern Latakia after losing several sites to the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard on Sunday.


According to rebel social media pages, the Islamists have recaptured the town of ‘Ateiri and they are advancing towards the strategic Zahiya Mountains (Jabal Al-Zahiya) that overlook the Turkish-Latakia border.
Should the Islamist rebels recapture Jabal Al-Zahiya from the Syrian Armed Forces, they will have effectively cutoff the latter from the northern axis of Al-Rabi’yah; this aforementioned town is considered the Free Syrian Army stronghold in Jabal Al-Turkmen.

Syrian Army recaptures the Al-Rawad Association Neighborhood in Deir Ezzor
Moments ago in the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s northwestern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard imposed full control over the Al-Rawad Association Neighborhood after an intense battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) overnight.



The military further added that the village Al-Baghayliyah has been secured, despite rumblings by ISIS and rebel social media activists about taking full control over this site on the Euphrates River.
Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces are working to restore security to the Ayyash weapons depot that has been under ISIS’ control since Saturday.

Senior Nusra Militant Commander Killed by Gov't Forces in Syria's Idlib
"The Syrian army troops and the National Defense Forces hit the positions of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front in the Southwestern part of Maarat al-Nu'aman near the village of Kafr Sijneh and killed 23 terrorists, including Nusra field commander Abdul Qader al-Sbeih," the army said.

"Samer Hajj Najib, a leader of Liwa al-Ansar, was killed alongside several of his forces in the Syrian army's offensive in the Southern battlefields of the province of Idlib," the sources said.

"In the meantime, at least 17 Takfiri militants were killed and many more were wounded in the Syrian armed forces' assaults near the village of Faylun South of Idlib city," the sources added.
