The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh) forecast on Thursday that during January this year the country would have few rains and high temperatures as a consequence of El Niño climate phenomenon.

Inameh's President José Sottolano explained such phenomenon "is expected to be of strong intensity this year," state-owned news agency AVN reported.

Venezuela faced in October 2013-April 2014 the seventh driest season in the last sixty years, Sottolano told Efe, adding that the country's rainy season, which is from late April until late November, has "many deficits" this time.
