Scotland Yard’s investigation into an alleged VIP paedophile ring is to close within days after officers failed to find any evidence, according to reports.
Operation Midland was launched 14 months ago after a witness known as Nick, claimed he had been abused as a child by senior politicians and military figures, who had also murdered at least three other boys.
Among those implicated in the alleged plot were the late former Prime Minister Ted Heath and the former Home Secretary Leon Brittan, who died last January.

Lord Bramall, the former head of the army and the former Tory MP, Harvey Proctor were also investigated by police and had their homes raided by detectives.
But the inquiry is now expected to be shut down within days after officers, who initially described the sensational claims as “credible and true”, were unable to find evidence that any crimes had taken place.
The climb-down will prove a huge embarrassment for Met chief, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, who is wating to see if his contract is extended by the Home Secretary.
The Daily Mail reported that Scotland Yard would announce its decision to shut down the investigation within days, but was preparing a media strategy in order to limit the reputational damage.

The closure of Operation Midland will lead to calls for the Met’s handling of the case to be scrutinised either by another police force or by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
The Commons Home Affairs Select Committee is also understood to be planning to call Sir Bernard and his senior officers to answer questions about the investigation.
It will also lead to questions around whether Nick should be put under investigation for wasting police time.
Last month, Lord Bramall, who had been under investigation for a year, was informed that there was not enough evidence to proceed with the case against him.

But the Met refused to issue a formal apology to the D-Day hero over his treatment during the investigation.
Mr Proctor, who is the only person alive who is still under investigation, said he had not been informed of any developments by the Met.
A Scotland Yard spokesman simply said: “Operation Midland is ongoing and inquiries continue.”
According to Nick the VIP paedophile ring operated between 1975 and 1984 and involved the rape, torture and murder of boys at a flat in Dolphin Square near Westminster.[/size]
