Out of range: Leer-3 systems suppress enemy communications in special military operation area

The Leer-3 electronic warfare and electronic reconnaissance system is designed for suppressing GSM communication using radio interference installed on a special UAV.

The system's direct strike capability is Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with special radio signal transmitters able to simulate GSM core network operation and countering the use of subscriber terminals. 

This kind of equipment allows blocking the operation of any devices at a distance of up to 30 kilometres, as well as enabling them to send false messages to subscribers.

The main task of Leer-3 system units is to detect mass accumulation of cellular subscribers in forested areas, along river beds, in village barns, and other unusual places.

The coordinates of this kind of clusters are immediately transmitted to headquarters for further decision-making.

Russian troops are advancing in the areas around Ogurtsovo near the border of the Belgorod region, West Russia, Belogorovka and Maryinka, Donetsk region.

The Russian Army is concentrating efforts on reaching the administrative borders of the Donetsk region and capturing the occupied territory. 

The Russian army reports striking with 4 Geran-2 UAVs, Ukrainian infrastructure facilities with its Air Force carrying out 9 missile and 10 air strikes, in addition to 10 MLRS attacks on Ukrainian sites in over 10 areas.

Russian Armed Forces strikes on Ukraine's energy system on 17 October 2022:

North-Ukrainian 750kV substation - 750/330kV power autotransformer and control room building struck. Dneprovskaya 750kV - 750/330kV autotransformer has presumably been affected.

Main Information and Computing Centre of Ukrenergo 

PP Rovno 330kV - the impact caused an emergency power outage in the city centre.

PS Khmelnitsky 330 kV - after the Geranium impact there was an emergency power outage in part of the Khmelnitsky region. 

PS Vinnitskaya 750 kV - likely target of fire.

The Vulnerabilities of the Ukrainian Energy Grid

The 750 kV lines in the figure above are marked in red and can be seen very well. Thus the obvious backbone of the Ukrainian UES is the line from the Donbass substation to the West Ukraine substation, crossing all of Ukraine in the latitudinal direction.

In the middle of this line it is "broken" by the Open Switchgear-750 of the South-Ukrainian NPP, where it is run in two parallel lines, with a distance of not more than 150 m between them, to the south towards the plant.  

In the east, there is a parallel line connected to the Zaporozhye NPP output circuit, which forms a local "double line" between the Dneprovskaya and Donbassskaya substations.

In the centre, the connected output circuits of Khmelnitsky and the now-closed Chernobyl nuclear power plants form another ring.

Finally, to the west, there is another spur connected to the output circuit of the Rivne NPP, which was never fully completed.

—Just so everyone has an understanding: the events of the last 9 days are just the beginning, just trial strikes. It will get worse from here.

—There is still time for Ukraine to capitulate before everything is smashed. But only with complete demilitarization.
