Da li će sukob Rusije i zemalja NATO-a biti neizbežan? Ako je do pre nekoliko dana šef Pentagona Lojd Ostin čvrsto držao da je direktna konfrontacija NATO-a i Rusije svakako izbežna, odmakom sati i eskalacijom sukoba u Ukrajini, mogućnost se više ne čini tako daleko – preuzeto.. Za Vladimira Milova, savetnika ruskog disidenta koji je sada u zatvoru Alekseja Navaljnog, „Putin neće stati, a Ukrajina je samo prvi korak, sukob je Putinove Rusije i Zapada“.


Za penzionisanog generala britanske vojske Krisa Deverela, stvar je još ograničenija. Više nije u pitanju razumevanje da li će do okršaja doći ili ne, već samo razumevanje kada će do njega doći. On je u intervjuu za Dejli mejl otvoreno izjavio da će „NATO na kraju morati da se bori protiv Rusije“ i veruje da je nametanje zone zabrane letova Ukrajini neizbežno.

Prema rečima ukrajinskog ministra spoljnih poslova Dmitra Kulebe, snage SAD i NATO-a treba da odbiju zonu zabrane letova nad nebom njegove zemlje samo ako im nedostaje „poverenje“ u vojnu alijansu. Kuleba je juče pozvao SAD i NATO da nametnu zonu zabranjenih letova njegovoj zemlji kako bi sprečili dalje ruske kampanje bombardovanja. „Smatramo da je odbijanje zone zabranjenog leta zasnovano na nedostatku poverenja u snage NATO-a kao alijanse, jer je vojna moć NATO-a neuporedivo veća od Rusije“, rekao je on. „Zašto bi Rusija oborila NATO avion znajući da je osuđen na poraz ako rat počne?


Ukrajinski predsednik Volodimir Zelenski takođe je pozvao američke zvaničnike da uvedu zonu zabrane letova iznad Ukrajine. Zahtev koji je NATO do sada odbijao iz straha da bi mogao da izazove Treći svetski rat, ali koji mnogi posmatrači u ovom trenutku smatraju teškim za ignorisanje. I to će neminovno biti prihvaćeno. Pre ili kasnije.

Nekoliko kilometara od Breše nalazi se gradić od nekoliko hiljada duša, gde su vetrovi rata između Rusije i Ukrajine doveli stanovništvo u pripravnost više nego u bilo kom drugom mestu u Italiji. Ovo je grad Gedi, u čijoj se vojnoj bazi nalazi dvadesetak nuklearnih bojevih glava u vlasništvu SAD. Iz tog razloga je baza (i ceo grad) u stanju ranog upozorenja od dana izbijanja sukoba. U nedelju, 6. marta, nekoliko stotina ljudi okupilo se ispred njega da zahteva prekid sukoba čija je brza eskalacija iznenada ovu malu zemlju učinila osetljivom metom. Ima samo 18.000 stanovnika Gedija, malog grada udaljenog dvadesetak kilometara od Breše. Mali naseljeni centar, koji je iznenada postao osetljiva meta u kontekstu rata između Ukrajine i Rusije: procenjuje se da se u lokalnoj vojnoj bazi nalazi najmanje dvadeset nuklearnih bojevih glava, koje se dodaju ostalim (trideset) u Aviano, u provinciji Pordenone. Zbog toga je u nedelju popodne organizovana sednica tokom koje su protestovali protiv rata ekonomskih interesa, protiv medijske i kulturne cenzure, protiv licemerne i diskriminatorske politike dočeka izbeglica i protiv slanja oružja u Ukrajinu. U stvari, deo naoružanja koje je italijanska vlada odlučila da pošalje Ukrajini, vešto izbegavajući konfrontaciju sa Parlamentom i javnim mnjenjem, otići će iz baze Gedi. Štaviše, radi se o poverljivoj listi čiji se sadržaj ne može sa sigurnošću znati, čak ni ako je izvesno da se radi o teškom naoružanju i ratnim oruđama. Svakako čudan način izvoza mira.


Prema izveštaju Grinpisa, objavljenom u decembru 2020, oko četrdeset bombi se čuva u bazama Avijano i Gedi. U slučaju mogućeg napada na ove baze, generisana atomska pečurka mogla bi da uključi od 2 do 10 miliona ljudi, u zavisnosti od intenziteta vetrova i vremena intervencije. Italija je (prema procenama, pošto nema zvaničnih podataka o tome) zemlja koja drži najveći broj nuklearnih bojevih glava u vlasništvu SAD u pritvoru. Prema bilateralnim sporazumima sa Sjedinjenim Državama o takozvanom „nuklearnom dijeljenju“, od zemalja NATO-a se mora zahtijevati da ugoste neke od nuklearnih bojevih glava i, u slučaju izbijanja sukoba, od lovaca-bombardera se traži da bace bombe u slučaju nužnost. Zbog toga se vežbe održavaju i u mirnodopskim uslovima, poput one koja je održana u Gediju u oktobru 2021. Međutim, to se dešava u Italiji uprkos činjenici da je naša zemlja potpisala i ratifikovala Ugovor o neširenju nuklearnog oružja, sa kojim je posvećena razoružanju i nuklearnom neširenju. US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland has confirmed that Washington has been involved in an effort to make sure no “materials” Ukraine keeps in its biolabs end up with the Russian military.
“Ukraine has biological research facilities, which, in fact, we are now quite concerned… Russian troops, Russian forces may be seeking to gain control of,” Nuland said on Tuesday as she testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“We’re working with Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach,” she added.
The Russian military previously claimed that the Ukrainian authorities have been hastily destroying dangerous materials, including highly pathogenic bacterial and viral agents they allegedly kept in laboratories linked to the Pentagon.

On Monday, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov said the documents seen by the Russian military suggest that some of these laboratories worked with anthrax, among other things. Kirillov also claimed that the only reason Kiev reportedly moved to destroy the materials was out of concern that Russian experts “will highly likely prove Ukraine and the US have been in violation of the Biological Weapons Convention,” once they study the samples.
While Moscow has expressed concern over the alleged development of bioweapons in Ukraine, Nuland appeared to preemptively blame Russia for any potential release of hazardous materials amid the ongoing military conflict.
Nuland agreed with Senator Marco Rubio that if a chemical or biological “incident” or “attack” takes place in Ukraine, then Russia would be the culprit.
“There is no doubt in my mind, senator, and it is a classic Russian technique to blame on the other guy what they’re planning to do themselves,” she said.
Kiev has denied it was designing bioweapons. The Pentagon said speculation about its involvement in these programs in former Soviet states is ‘Russian disinformation’.

A 2011 report from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences’ Committee on Anticipating Biosecurity Challenges of the Global Expansion of High-Containment Biological Laboratories explained how the Odessa-based laboratory “is responsible for the identification of especially dangerous biological pathogens.”

“This laboratory was reconstructed and technically updated up to the BSL-3 level through a cooperative agreement between the United States Department of Defense and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine that started in 2005. The collaboration focuses on preventing the spread of technologies, pathogens, and knowledge that can be used in the development of biological weapons,” the report continues.
“The updated laboratory serves as Interim Central Reference Laboratory with a depozitarium (pathogen collection). According to Ukrainian regulations, it has a permit to work with both bacteria and viruses of the first and second pathogenic groups,” explains the report.
A separate document detailing Ukraine’s biolab network from the BioWeapons Prevention Project outlines in greater detail the scope of pathogens the facility has conducted research with.
Among the viruses the lab studied were Ebola and “viruses of pathogencity group II by using of virology, molecular, serologica and express methods.”
Additionally, the lab provided “special training for specialists on biosafety and biosecurity issues during handling of dangerous biological pathogenic agents.”

Russia makes new claims on US-financed biolabs in Ukraine
The US has “covered” Ukraine with a network of biolaboratories linked to the Pentagon, the Russian Defense Ministry says

The Ukrainian authorities have been urgently destroying pathogens studied at its laboratories linked to the US Department of Defense, the Russian military claimed on Monday, adding that such activities hint at the military purposes of these studies.
As many as 30 biological laboratories have been established in Ukraine that are actively cooperating with the US military, the commander of the Russian radiological, chemical and biological defense force, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, said at a news briefing on Monday.
The list of these laboratories’ partners includes the Pentagon’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) – the largest biomedical research facility administered by the US military; the general added.

Many of these laboratories have been active since the 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine and their emergence in the country has coincided with a spike in infectious diseases in the region, including German measles, diphtheria and tuberculosis, the Russian military said.
After the Russian forces launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, these laboratories started hastily destroying the materials they had been working on, including the highly pathogenic bacterial and viral agents, Kirillov has said, adding that Moscow has obtained documents related to that process.
Analysis of the documents shows that the laboratories had been working with dangerous infections such as anthrax and the plague. “Assortment and the excessive quantity of the biological agents suggest that the work done in these laboratories had been part of some military biological programs,” the general has said, adding that just one such laboratory in the western Ukrainian city of Lvov had destroyed as many as 320 containers with pathogens causing plague, swamp fever and Malta fever among others.

“If these collections fall into the hands of the Russian experts, they will highly likely prove Ukraine and the US have been in violation of the Biological Weapons Convention,” Kirillov has said, adding that “this is the only reason that can explain the hasty destruction” of those materials.
The general has also expressed his concerns that all the biological materials needed for the alleged military biological program to continue had been already transported to the US.
Kiev has denied developing bioweapons, and Washington has not commented on the Russian military statements so far.
Moscow has been raising alarm about the activities of the US-financed biological laboratories located in the former Soviet states for quite some time. Earlier, it pointed to the Lugar Research Center – a US-funded laboratory in Georgia – as a place where some dangerous experiments are being conducted.
The Pentagon brushed off such accusations as a “Russian disinformation campaign” at that time.
