Ankara has expressed interest in purchasing the S-400 Triumf mobile surface-to-air missile systems from Russia to develop its own air defense system, Turkish MP Ahmet Berat Conkar of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) told Sputnik Turkey.

Turkey "aims to develop defense systems of this type primarily by itself. We need technology exchange and joint production. These issues are important to Turkey," he said, adding that Ankara needs to purchase the new weapons at the best price possible.

"Steps aimed at increasing capabilities and boosting the defense budget, a hot topic for NATO members at the moment, have already been taken. I consider the measures adopted by Turkey as appropriate. After all, some NATO members use Russian-made armaments," the MP added. "I don't think that there will be any issues."

Ahmet Berat Conkar further noted that Ankara needs to buy a missile defense complex to "develop its own anti-ballistic missile defense system."
A recent rapprochement between Ankara and Moscow has apparently had a positive effect on the S-400 talks.
"Agreements reached during talks between [Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan] necessarily promote cooperation. We all know that this is one of the topics discussed at the highest level. In this respect we will work together with all of our partners, including Russia to purchase systems which Turkey requires at the best price," he said.
Turkey has become the latest country interested in purchasing the S-400. On Monday, Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov said that Russia and Ankara are discussing a possible S-400 deal, with both sides currently focused on the financial aspect of the agreement. A day later, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the talks were "successfully moving forward."

Why Turkey Wants to Obtain Russian-Made S-400 Air Defense Systems
The S-400 Triumf, which NATO refers to as SA-21 Growler, was developed by the Almaz-Antey defense contractor and manufactured by the Fakel Machine-Building Design Bureau. It is capable of intercepting all types of modern air weaponry, including fifth-generation warplanes, as well as ballistic and cruise missiles at a maximum range of nearly 250 miles.

The S-400, estimated to cost $400 million per unit, has been in service since April 2007.
Russia is reported to have reached an agreement to deploy the S-400 to China and India. Other potential buyers include Armenia, Belarus, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam.[/size]

The Syrian Army and the National Defense Forces managed to liberate several points in the eastern part of Hama province from terrorists of the Islamic State group.

A new offensive was launched by the Syrian Army in the eastern parts of Hama province, the al-Masdar news website reported. As a result, Syrian troops and the National Defense Forces (NDF) from al-Salamiyeh managed to liberate several points, located in the province, from terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group, killing and wounding a number of militants during the operation.
The Syrian Army recaptured al-Sawalem checkpoint and a number of points, located near Fikan village in al-Salamiyeh region. Currently, Syrian troops and their allies are advancing towards al-Aqirabat, located in the southeastern part of the province between eastern Hama and eastern Homs, and are going to cut off terrorists’ supply route, which connects Raqqa and eastern Homs.
On Thursday, after missile units of terrorist groups launched attacks on residential areas in al-Saqilbiyeh town, the Syrian troops and the country’s air force struck positions of Ahrar al-Sham and Jund al-Aqsa terrorists, stationed in northern Hama.
The shelling of residential areas of al-Saqilbiyeh was started by Ahrar al-Sham and Jund al-Aqsa after the Syrian Army managed to repulse two offensives of terrorists on army’s positions in the area, located between Bridij and al-Moqayer in northern Hama, killing and wounding over 150 militants.
In addition, Syrian troops launched attacks on positions and movements of the terrorist groups in al-Banah town and Tal Othman region. As a result, tens of militants were killed and wounded.
At the same time, the Syrian Air Force performed several sorties over concentration centers of the terrorist groups in al-Janabareh village and in the area, located near the Othman hill. A number of terrorists lost their lives in the aerial raids.[/size]

Just as we suspected: The Russian Ministry of Defense has confirmed that the lightning-fast assault on Palmyra was planned and coordinated by Russian Special Forces and of course backed by Russian air support.
The details:

The Syrian army’s major offensive to retake the ancient city of Palmyra from Islamic State militants was planned and coordinated by Russian military advisers, Russia’s General Staff said.
“The Syrian army’s operation in Palmyra has been a remarkable success. It has been planned and carried out under the guidance of Russian military advisers,” Sergey Rudskoy, chief of the General Staff’s operations department, said on Friday.
Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) suffered heavy casualties, having lost over 1,000 militants killed or injured in action, along with 19 tanks, 37 armored fighting vehicles, 98 pickup trucks mounting heavy weaponry and 100 other combat vehicles, General Rudskoy added.
The Russian Air Force and Special Forces played a vital role in destroying IS positions outside Palmyra, he continued. Russia’s brand new fixed- and rotor-wing aircraft, including the newest Kamov Ka-52 attack helicopters, were deployed in the operation.

Four Russian military advisors were killed last week not too far from Palmyra, but the report was buried. It's clear the Russians are extremely active in this region. But they want the glory to go to Syria.

During just few hours, the Syrian army’s Tiger Forces liberated a high number of villages from ISIS terrorists along the Euphrates River and outflanked the ISIS-held Jihar Airbase in the province of Aleppo.
Earlier the Tiger Forces had retaken the strategic Water Treatment Plant, the town of Khafsah  and a bunch of  the nearby villages.
The recent gains allowed government troops reached the Jihar Airbase from the northern and eastern flanks.
Now, government forces are reportedly storming the airbase.

Vojnici iz Srbije prvi put će učestvovati na vežbi Organizacije dogovora o kolektivnoj bezbednosti (ODKB), bezbednosnog saveza koji predvodi Rusija, potvrđeno je u Ministarstvu odbrane, prenosi Politika.

Министарство одбране, Војска Србије и Министарство унутрашњих послова планирају да се активно укључе у реализацију вежбе „Нераскидиво братство 2017“ која се планирана у Казахстану за септембар ове године, чиме би био подигнут ниво учешћа са посматрача на активног учесника, ангажујући на вежби снаге Војске Србије и Министарства унутрашњих послова. Очекујемо наставак усаглашавања учешћа, сценарио вежбе, структуру и састав учесника и друге детаље неопходне за планирање и припрему учешћа на националном нивоу. Представници Министарства одбране и Војске Србије су током 2016. године учествовали на вежбама ОДКБ „Нераскидиво братство 2016“ и „Садејство 2016“ у својству посматрача – наводи се у одговорима Министарства одбране на питања новинара.
Иначе, организација заједничких вежби на територији Србије није могућа због нормативних регулатива које ограничавају ангажовање састава ОДКБ ван граница држава чланица.
Омладински форум
На предлог представника ОДКБ-а, у октобру ове године у Београду ће бити организован Омладински форум на тему „Актуелни проблеми обезбеђења евроазијске безбедности“ у коме би учествовало око 50 студената из држава чланица ОДКБ-а и известан број студената и кадета из Србије.
Поред предвиђених предавача из институција и држава чланица ОДКБ, планирано је да на форуму учествује и већи број релевантних предавача експерта из Србије. Форум се организује први пут, а идеја је потекла од Секретаријата ОДКБ-а, у циљу зближавања младих. Планирано је да форуму присуствује око 50 студената са државних факултета и међу њима вероватно кадети са војних академија и Академије Министарства за ванредне ситуације из Руске Федерације, Казахстана, Белорусије, Јерменије и Таџикистана. Форум би трајао два до три дана, у термину око 20. октобра, како би студенти могли да присуствују обележавању годишњице ослобођења Београда. Планирано је да се као предавачи на пленарном заседању ангажују генерални секретар ОДКБ-а, амбасадори из земаља чланица ОДКБ-а у Београду, поједини депутати из земаља чланица ОДКБ који имају звања доктора наука, министар одбране Србије и припадници Министарства одбране Србије, предавачи са Универзитета у Београду, посланици Народне скупштине Србије и други – наводи се у допису Министарства одбране.
Сарадња полицијских структура
Што се тиче сарадње Србије и ОДКБ-а на полицијском нивоу, очекује се наставак усаглашавања учешћа представника Министарства унутрашњих послова на активностима у области сузбијања наркотика.
За сада се не разматра учешће на вежбама већ обука и образовање у Сибирском институту за обуку кадрова за борбу против наркотика – наводи се у одговорима Министарства одбране.
План сарадње Србије и ОДКБ-а за ову годину ће, након усаглашавања, највероватније бити проширен са још неколико активности, и то у области сајбер-безбедности и трговине људима, напомиње се у допису Министарства одбране.[/size]

In a recent television appearance, Syria's U.N. envoy Bashar Jaafari made it clear that Damascus believes Moscow is firmly backing Syria's right to defend itself against Israeli airstrikes. 
According to Haaretz: 

Russia has sent a clear message to Israel that the rules of the game have changed in Syria and its freedom to act in Syrian skies is over, Syria’s ambassador to the United Nations said on Sunday night.
“Putin sent a clear message,” said Bashar Jaafari, speaking on Syrian television. “The fact is that the Israeli ambassador [to Russia] was summoned for a conversation only a day after he submitted his credentials [to the Russian Foreign Ministry last Thursday], and was told categorically that this game is over.”
Syria’s use of anti-aircraft fire against Israel last Thursday night has changed the rules of the game, too, Jaafari said, adding that Syria will not stand idly by in the face of an Israeli threat.

The Syrian government has announced that it will retaliate should Israel continue to conduct airstrikes on Syrian territory.

Why Israel is 'Deeply Interested' in Continuation of Syrian War
Any further airstrikes on Syrian territory will be met with deadly force and retaliation strikes deep within Israeli soil, they said.

According to the message, delivered via Russian mediators, attacks on Syrian military objects will be met with Scud missiles launched at Israeli military (IDF) bases. If Israel attacks civilian infrastructure, Syrian missiles will be fired at Israel's Haifa port and petrochemical plant. The missiles will be launched without any prior notice, the statement said.
The notice follows Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's March 20 statement that protecting its borders is the right and obligation of every nation.
"Syria's forceful response to the Israeli attacks changed the rules of the game," said Syrian Ambassador to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari. He added that the threatened response is "appropriate and in line with Israel's terrorist operation," and that Israel "will now think a million times [before striking again]."
On March 17, Israeli military reported several airstrikes on Syrian territory; they were followed by several anti-aircraft missiles launched at Israeli warplanes flying over Syrian territory. One of the missiles was reportedly intercepted by Israel's Arrow missile defense system. However, Syrian authorities claim they successfully downed an Israeli plane not far from Damascus.
Following the incidents, Israel threatened to conduct strikes specifically to destroy Syrian anti-air batteries.
According to Israeli leadership, the airstrikes are aimed at fighting advanced weapons smuggling to Hezbollah in Lebanon across Syrian territory.
"Our politics is very consistent," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in the wake of the airstrikes. "When we know about an attempt to smuggle weapons to Hezbollah, we do whatever we can to prevent this from happening, provided we have sufficient information and capabilities to react."
According to media reports, during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Netanyahu vowed to continue fighting attempts to smuggle weapons to Hezbollah through Syria. Netanyahu denied reports that he was told to cease military operations in Syria.
Israel and Syria have not engaged in any kind of serious military confrontation since civil war broke out in Syria six years ago. The sporadic, over-the-border fire is dismissed by Israeli authorities. There are about 800 Soviet-made Scud missiles, capable of delivering half a ton of explosives, located in Syria.[/size]
