Is a base salary of $150,000 enough to live comfortably and save for retirement in the Bay Area?

I do NOT make 150K and I have a nice life and own my place. Everything I need,
I have. Most things I want, I also have, including the newest iphone, a road
bike, an all electric car, vacations, etc. I'm not boasting, I'm just saying
I'm not eating beans and living like a pauper.

It all depends on how you want to live and what you want to spend your money on.
If you want to eat extravagantly, go out all the time, and live in the
trendiest neighborhoods, and buy really nice things all the time, 150K is not
enough ANYWHERE.

Need vs wants.

For the year before I bought, I made a budget of ONLY essentials: rent,
utilities, absolute minimum food - no eating or going out. I had to call my
friend, who was also saving, to buy anything outside of the budget boundaries.
We even went food shopping together to keep ourselves in check. It was like
being married to the cheapest person in the world. I saved a ton. When I
actually bought the first frivolous thing (a Northface jacket for 100 bucks),
the guilt was overwhelming since I had been so used to NOT spending.

Eto, 150 000 je sasvim dovoljno ako malo paziš i ne želiš što ti ne treba.

A naši penzioneri samo kukaju.
