Tourist arrivals up 20% in Croatia in February
ZAGREB, 11 March 2019 – Croatia has welcomed 270,000 tourists in February, which is 20% more than in the same month in 2018, the Croatian Tourist Board announced on Monday.
According to data from the e-visitor system, in the first two months of 2019 a total of 485,000 visited Croatia, which was 9% more than in the first two months of last year.
Overnight stays were up 12% in February and 4% overall in the first two months of 2019 with 1.3 million recorded. More than 60% of all arrivals (297,000) and overnight stays (792,000) were foreign tourists. This was 11% and 5% more respectively than in the same period last year.
Local tourists from Croatia were up 6% and 4% when it came to registered arrivals and overnight stays at destinations. Apart from locals, most of the tourists visiting destinations in January and February came from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Germany, Austria and Italy.
Istria was the most popular destination in Croatia in the first two months of 2019, followed by Zagreb and Kvarner, Split-Dalmatia.
The most overnight stays were recorded in Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Split and Opatija.
In 2018, 19.7 million tourists visited Croatia, this was 6.5% more than in 2017 and a new record in Croatian tourism history.
