Albanian mafia flooding Britain with drugs as it grasps £5billion cocaine market

Britain’s £5billion cocaine market is now dominated by the ruthless Albanian mafia, experts have said.

Violent gangs from the Balkan nation are said to have slowly taken over the drug trade in Britain after steadily moving into the country after the fall of communism in Albania in 1990.

Now fearsome thugs control almost all of the market in the UK – with cocaine at its cheapest since 1990 and the purest it has been for a decade.

The Albanian mafia, or Mafia Shqiptare, seized control of the British drug market by ditching “wholesalers” and negotiating directly with Colombian cartels.

This allowed them to lower the price while increasing purity.



The UK now has the highest number of young cocaine users in Europe.

One small cog in the empire is the Hellbanianz, a notorious gang which rules over the Gascoigne estate in Barking, East London.

The 50-strong mob posts social media images showing wads of cash and expensive cars.

The gang had 115,000 Instagram followers, before its account was closed in November.

They discuss defending Barking with “kallash” – AK-47s – and dish out threats to rivals. One video states they are “ready for war”.

When the Mirror visited the estate, locals told how the dealers sell their product from inside its grim tower blocks.

One said: “There are 50 or 60 of them in the tower blocks. Hell­banianz – they’ve got a reputation around here... They’re not kids, many of them in their 20s.

“I see them when they’re shooting videos. Cars pull up, they get out with masks on and film themselves.”

A National Crime Agency spokesman said: “Albanian crime groups have established a high profile and degree of influence within UK organised crime, and have considerable access to the UK drug trafficking market, particularly cocaine.


“Albanian organised crime groups appear to be good at forging links with other groups to conduct criminal ‘business’ that includes drug and firearms trafficking, money laundering and human trafficking.”

Mohammed Qasim, of Leeds Beckett University, said: “The Albanians have a serious reputation. They will not think twice about using violence.”
