Record 19.7 million tourists visit Croatia in 2018

OPATIJA, 1 January 2018 – A record 19.7 million tourists visited Croatia in 2018, Croatian Tourist Board director Kristijan Staničić announced on Tuesday in Opatija. 
According to the latest data from the eVisitor system, 19.7 million tourists visited Croatia in 2018, this was 6.5% more than in 2017 and a new record in Croatian tourism history.  
More than 106 million overnight stays were recorded, representing 4% more than in 2017, the Ministry of Tourism reported. 
In 2017, 18.5 million tourists visited Croatia with 102 million overnight stays. 
“We have just stepped into 2019 and already we are deeply involved in promotional activities on key markets and I expect this year to be very challenging and intense. We will give our best and I believe all tourist boards will promote Croatia in the best way and help maintain the position it has today on the world tourism market,”Staničić said. 
Staničić added that more than one billion euro was invested in tourism last year and he expects investment in 2019 to be at a similar level. 
“I believe that further growth will be achieved in the quality of accommodation capacities, the total tourist offer and additional content, and that Croatia will develop as a year-round destination with an emphasis on the pre-season and this year with an even greater emphasis on continental tourism,” he said.

Istria was the most popular region this year, followed by the Split-Dalmatia county, Kvarner, Zadar and Dubrovnik-Neretva counties.
Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Poreč, Split and Medulin were the most visited destinations in 2018.
