Croatia Tops EU for Freshwater Resources

Croatia leads Europe for freshwater resources per inhabitant, according to data from Eurostat.
In one of the key indicators for determining the viability of water supply in the country, Croatia tops the European Union with 27,330 cubic meters of water per capita.

In second was Finland, followed by Sweden in third place with around 20,000 cubic meters of drinking water per capita. Latvia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Hungary were next on the list.
Malta at the bottom
Malta was last on the list in the European Union for freshwater resources with just 220 cubic meters of water per capita, Index.hr reports.
“Water is essential for life, it is an indispensable resource for the economy, and also plays a fundamental role in the climate regulation cycle. The management and protection of water resources, of fresh and saltwater ecosystems, and of the water we drink and bathe in is, therefore, one of the cornerstones of environmental protection. This is why the EU’s water policy over the past 30 years is focused on the protection of water resources,” Eurostat said.

Croatia known for its water sources
Thanks to Croatia’s reputation as one of the largest European and world drinking water oasis, recently a Croatian startup launched an application that maps global sources of clean, free drinking water.
