6.3 magnitude earthquake hit north-east Philippines
A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the north-east Philippines on Sunday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said. The tremors were recorded at 11:40 UTC, with the epicenter of the quake located 62 kilometers north of the island of Jomalig and a depth of 10 kilometers. There have so far been no reports of casualties or destruction. A tsunami warning was not issued. The Philippine archipelago is part of the Ring of Fire in the Pacific Ocean, which is the most seismically active region on the planet due to the colliding tectonic plates. In 1990, a 7.8 magnitude quake took the lives of 1,600 people in the Philippines._________________

Shoot, this does not look good...
Live | Japan earthquake: small tsunami strike Fukushima coastlina after 7.4 magnitude quake
Coastal residents in Japan were ordered to flee to higher ground on Tuesday after a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck off the coast of Fukushima prefecture.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for waves of up to 3 metres in Fukushima and Miyagi prefecture, and a tsunami advisory for much of the rest of northeast Japan's Pacific coast. There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
Tsunamis of 1.4 metres and 90 centimetres were reported in Sendai and Soma about an hour after the 6 am earthquake, and the tsunami warning area was widened later in the morning.
Fukushima prefecture is home to the nuclear power plant that was destroyed by a huge tsunami following an offshore earthquake in 2011.
The Japan Meteorological Agency put the quake at 7.4 magnitude while the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said it was 6.9 magnitude. It struck at a shallow depth of seven miles) shortly before 6.00 am local time on Tuesday (2100 GMT on Monday) in the Pacific off Fukushima.

Japan Declares State Of Emergency, Reactor Leaks Into Ocean
David Vanallen | February 8, 2017 | Health, Nature, News
The Fukushima nuclear explosion doesn’t stop wreaking havoc on the environment and it’s seems that it’s only going to get worse. There’s a state of emergency at the Japan power plant at the moment after the authorities recorded an abnormally high level of radiation mainly coming from the hole created from the melted nuclear fuel under the plant. And it’s threatening to start leaking in the ocean.
According to RT.com the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) reported radiation levels of up to 530 Sieverts per hour inside the inactive Reactor 2 at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex which was damaged during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
TEPCO reported that there’s a hole of about a square meter in size beneath the reactor’s pressure vessel. Experts say that the hole in the metal grating of one of three reactors that had exploded back in 2011, was probably caused by melted nuclear fuel that fell through the vessel. The iron frame has a melting point of 1500 degrees, TEPCO added, explaining that it’s possible that some fuel debris has fallen onto ii, creating the hole.
Moreover, TEPCO adds that they have found fuel debris on the equipment at the bottom of the pressure vessel, just over the hole. With the help of a remote controlled camera the scientists were able to see inside the nuclear reactor and saw the residues from the nuclear material and the hole.
The environment inside the reactor is so toxic that previous attempts at going beneath the plant with specially designed robots were unsuccessful; the robots malfunctioned from the high radiation levels. But TEPCO doesn’t give up and has plans to send more self-propelled robots to assess the damage from the nuclear reactor’s explosion.
In an interview with RT, Yosuke Yamashiki, Doctor of Engineering from Kyoto University said the located leaking is a huge discovery. “This is a kind of progress. There is a very small hole… and very small amount of the radiation is still leaking from the reactor.”
He adds that: “It’s not the fatal level but it is going on. However, they haven’t established a proper means of how to decompose the meltdown reactor yet. There are not so many ways to decompose it.” He also mentioned that together with his colleagues they are trying out a special ice technique and the results will soon be seen, but the technique hasn’t been yet approved. If they are successful maybe the government will allow its use.
Yamashiki stressed out that it will take hundreds and thousands of years to completely eliminate the radiation in the area. But, on the up side, he said, “right now, the radiation level is much lower since the reactor hasn’t been active for a while.” At the start of the week, there were high hopes for an efficient cleanup at Fukushima, after the plant operator admitted that they might have finally found part of the nuclear fuel debris they believe is the cause for a lot of the lingering contamination from six years ago.

Record Radiation Aborts Robot Mission Inside Fukushima Reactor
In the largest nuclear incident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, radiation levels are so high that every robot sent to examine the site has failed.
Last month one of these robots aborted its mission after it was blocked by what appeared to be deposits of debris and melted fuel. There have been at least two similar incidents in the past, with one robot abandoned after not being able to find fuel for several days, and another failing after falling into a gap.
"We should think out of the box so we can examine the bottom of the core and how melted fuel debris spread out," said Masuda, according to Japan Today. He added that before alternative methods for gathering fuel can be explored, he intends to send in another robot.

‘Unimaginable’ – Understanding Radiation Levels Inside Fukushima Reactor
The Japan Times quoted an email from MIT engineering and nuclear science professor Jacopo Buongiorno saying, "The road map for removing the fuel is going to be long, 2020 and beyond…The re-solidified fuel is likely stuck to the vessel wall and vessel internal structures. So the debris have to be cut, scooped, put into a sealed and shielded container and then extracted from the containment vessel. All done by robots."
It will take at least 40 years to fully decommission the reactors, with a projected cost of tens of billions.
A fear of the radiation has also caused Jeju Air, a low-cost South Korean air carrier, to tell its customers that they will no longer fly out of Fukushima’s airport, after users posted online that they would not "board airplanes that flew over Fukushima."

Radiation from the failed reactors at Fukushima is causing clean-up robots to malfunction and fail. Naohiro Masuda, head of decommissioning for Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO), the plant’s operator, has called for the robots to be redesigned so they can withstand the lethal conditions inside the nuclear power plant.
In the aftermath of a magnitude-9.0 earthquake and tsunami in 2011, three of Fukushima’s six reactors suffered a meltdown, forcing nearly 100,000 people living nearby to be relocated. Roughly 19,000 people were recorded as killed or missing in the disaster.© AP PHOTO/ SHIZUO KAMBAYASHI
